I find by being very specific I am much more efficient in my practice. This is much of the hard work of practice ie the planning. I must admit I am guilty of not planning when I have more time, but when I am pushed for time, then planning meticulously is the way to go. I also factor in much more listening time, listening to recordings can't be understated.
