Welcome to the tonebase Viola Community!
Hey everyone - this is Martin from tonebase!
As the Head of Live and Community here on tonebase, it's such a pleasure to welcome you to the tonebase community. We would love to get to know you! Please introduce yourself in a post below with the following format:
- Where are you from and what's your favorite food from there? ;)
- What are you currently working on?
- What are you hoping to get out of this community?
I’ll go first:
- I was born and raised in Munich, Germany! As you’d expect, Bavarian cuisine is heavy and includes many meat and Knödel dishes, as well as crops such as beets and potatoes! While this food makes me think back to my childhood, I prefer much more food from my current hometown Düsseldorf, where we have the biggest Japanese community outside of Japan. So Düsseldorf has no shortage of great Ramen shops, Sushi places, and even Teppanyaki grill houses!
- When it comes to viola, I am clueless! I have studied classical guitar and sound engineering. Currently, I am in the process of recording a new album with my guitar duo, "TwoFourTwelve". Although my father is a passionate viola player, but he recently bought my niece a violin. I am excited to see her grow as a person with music by her side!
- I hope to get to know and help all of you achieve your musical and artistic goals. Let's have some fun and get to work.

Hello. I'm Charley from Reno, Nevada USA. I started taking lessons about 10 years ago ... later in life ... but then, life got the best of my time. So onto the back burner for my new viola until recently and fast forward to today. I have already learned much more these last few days here on Tonebase than when I began. Bravo Tonebase.
I have an eclectic taste in music and after watching the first lesson in Music Theory Basics, I already have a much greater appreciation for the music I love. I have always been currious how it works and still have a long way to go to get from this beginner stage I'm in to become decent amateur musician.
I don't want to get ahead of myself but I didn't know that I was holding my hand positioned incorrectly on the fingerboard/neck and was getting very sore. I mean painful, cramps, and discouraged. Then I watch the video on how to use your left hand to play notes.
I am still having a little trouble getting my fingers to operate correctly way over on the C string but it's great to learn the basics first. And save my hand some pain in the process.
Boy, I can't think of one food that stands out...I like most foods...but if I had to pick, I love omelettes with veggies. Or a really good eggs Benedict.
I already am getting a lot of value out of Tonebase Viola lessons and plan to follow through with getting proficient.

Hi all! I'm Lydia, based in the midwest US. I earned a doctorate in viola performance a decade ago but crippling performance anxiety (and PTSD from my degree) pushed me into having a full time day job. I'm slowly coming back to things now as my life has stabilized. I play in local freelance orchestras but am still stuck in a cycle of being a regular sub but never winning a permanent spot. I'm here looking for answers to help me make tangible progress with my auditions/ musical performance, stay motivated and continuously learning, and build community along the way. I would love to join up with accountability buddies to play for each other occasionally. If you're interested, please get in touch! https://www.linkedin.com/in/lydiamtang?utm_source=share&utm_campaign=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=android_app

Hello everyone, my name is Jean. I last played the viola 50 years ago in the high school Orchestra. Three years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and it was recommended that I do some music. Thus I went on Facebook and obtained a decent viola and have been playing with a strum band. It’s a drop in of guitars {12 of them,} a violin, electric base and drums and keyboard. I have put a microphone on my viola so I can be heard. Everyone gets music from ultimate guitar, but it doesn’t really help me being a music reader.. I quite often go to note flight and convert Music to the alto clef.
One song that we will be doing this January I need help in trying to figure out what to play, I just want to dance with you by George Strait. If anyone has any ideas, I would be most appreciative.I just want to dance with you by George Strait. If anyone has any ideas, I would be most appreciative.
As for food, I love Italian, alas my husband does not so I try to eat Italian when we go out.

Hoping to learn how to play in tune I have a good ear and hoping practice will make perfect.

Hi everyone! I am Fernando and I just joined Tonebase Viola. I am on Tonebase Guitar for about 4 years now and decided to take the dust off of my Viola and finally dedicate some time to get to learn it.
I am a complete beginner with the Viola. My interest originates from me listening to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto n6 BWV 1051, specially because of the Adagio ma non tanto. I see it as a beautiful crying dialogue between the two violas. Since then I wanted to learn viola to play this movement.
- Where are you from and what's your favorite food from there? ;)
I am from Brazil, but live in New York City for 7 years now. My favorite food is brazilian feijoada, a bean stew, that becomes magical when served with rice, ground meet and a fried egg!
- What are you currently working on?
I am currently working on ergonomics, basic technique, holding the viola, using the bow and getting a good clean sound out of the Viola. I hope to learn some beautiful pieces that I can play with good intonation very soon!
- What are you hoping to get out of this community?
I am hoping to get to interact with everyone and learn from you all in here. My experience with Tonebase Guitar's community is that the courses are much richer in these community forums and challenges. Everyone is learning together and exposing their own issues. Everyone has a solution to some issues and sharing is the best way to have others learn as well.
